Statement on the Shooting by ICE Agents in Biddeford, Maine

We are devasted by the news of ICE agents shooting and killing a young man in Biddeford yesterday.  As York County’s Domestic Violence Resource Center, Caring Unlimited envisions a future where all people live in homes and communities free of domestic abuse and all forms of violence.

As an organization that works every day to end domestic abuse and increase safety, we decry violence and the abuse of power in all its forms.  Misuse of power and control is a central element of domestic abuse, and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement tactics on display leading up to and in the wake of this tragedy plainly prioritize using power to sow fear and assert control over our immigrant and BIPOC friends and neighbors.

Caring Unlimited stands with our community and those working and organizing to help people. We stand in solidarity with organizations and individuals working around the clock to help connect people with resources they may need during this time including:

·       Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project

·       Maine Immigrant Rights Coalition

·       ACLU of Maine – Know Your Rights

Caring Unlimited provides critical safety planning to anyone experiencing abuse regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, country of origin, immigration status, gender, or income.  Our 24-Hour Helpline is available for free and confidential direct support, safety planning, and connection to other critical resources.
