Be inspired this October: Survivor Stories Project

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 25TH | 5:00- 7:00 PM

WELLS PUBLIC LIBRARY | 1434 POST RD WELLS, ME

Join us for an incredible evening hearing the stories of survivors of domestic violence, read by volunteers.

Caring Unlimited created the Survivor Stories Project (SSP) in 2013 in an effort to raise awareness about domestic abuse and violence experienced by women, men and children here in York County, Maine. Writing and sharing our stories is a powerful way to raise awareness about domestic violence in our community, as well as a way to help heal from abuse we’ve experienced.

Featuring a reading from The Road to After by the author, Rebekah Lowell

Author Rebekah Lowell will be reading from her middle grade fiction novel The Road to After, a story told in verse about a young girl's journey to healing after experiencing abuse.

Rebekah Lowell is an author-illustrator whose curiosity about nature fuels her creativity. Her childhood, filled with wildflowers, finds its way into her work. A mother of two and survivor of domestic abuse, she is passionate about resiliency, freedom, and hope.

"Like her gentle illustrations, the verse format suits her story, a mosaic of small epiphanies that cumulatively chart a path from darkness into light. . . . A moving, age-appropriate, and convincing portrayal of family resilience after trauma." -Kirkus Reviews

"Debut author Lowell positively depicts how trained professionals can help families regain control of their lives, and she draws upon her own experiences living in a household of abuse. Though Lacey’s struggles are emotional, her journey toward independence is filled with hope." -Booklist

The Survivor Stories Project is a free event and a part of Caring Unlimited’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) programming.
