Domestic Abuse

Caring Unlimited Outreach Services Program

Support and Education Groups

A variety of day and evening groups offering safety planning information, encouragement, hope and strength held weekly at Caring Unlimited Resource Centers in Sanford, Biddeford, Limerick, and Kittery.

Each year approxmately 400 women and children participate in Caring Unlimited Support and Education Groups throughout York County.

Caring Unlimited’s confidential Support Groups will help you learn that...

You are not alone! Attending a Caring Unlimited support group, can help you discover that there are many other women who understand the pain of living with domestic abuse because they have been there themselves. It has been estimated that 60,000 Maine women are abused each year by their partners. You may begin to feel less alone as you connect with other women who truly understand your situation.

You are not to blame! Hearing the stories of other women who have lived with domestic abuse, can help you begin to recognize the common tactics used by abusers and begin to understand that it is not your fault...that only the abuser is responsible for his choices and that only he can change them

You do not have the power to change your abuser! We all want to have happy, healthy relationships. People who abuse their loved ones routinely blame their victim for their abusive behavior; and women who are abused by a loved one routinely try hard to satisfy their partners in order to end the abuse. Support group can help you understand that the abuse is not about you...it’s about the abuser who is the only one with the power to stop it.

You do have the power to change your life! An environment of encouraging, non-judgmental peer support gives you the opportunity to discover what options you have for changing your life and begin to feel stronger and more hopeful as you remember once again that you have the right to make your own decisions in your own time.

Confidentiality

All group locations, and the names and stories of group members are completely confidential.

Non-judgmental Peer Support

All groups are facilitated by trained domestic violence victim’s advocates who are often formerly battered women themselves. We’re not here to tell you what to do. We’re here to offer information, emotional support and referrals to other resources and to support you as you make the choices you feel are best for you. Caring Unlimited respects the fact that every woman has the right to make her own decisions in her own time.

Free, quality childcare is available by trained kid workers during all of our support groups with 48 hours notice.
