YOU
CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!
Caring Unlimited, York County’s only domestic violence
program since 1977, is facing a critical need to expand
its pool of trained volunteers to provide support on
the hotline, co-facilitate groups, and to work with children
who have witnessed domestic violence.
With greater community awareness about the effects of
domestic violence on families and our communities, Caring
Unlimited is experiencing an ever-increasing demand for
safety planning and support services for survivors and
their children.
In 2000 Caring Unlimited staff and volunteers responded
to 1,745 women and men who called the 24-Hour Hotline
seeking support with safety planning, crisis intervention,
emotional support and links to needed services; 323 individuals
received 1,821 hours of assistance in York County Courts
with Protection From Abuse Orders, pro se divorce and
more; 366 women and children attended support groups
held throughout York County; 210 women and children who
were not safe in their homes found safe haven and support
at Emergency Shelter; and seven families, including seven
women and their thirteen children participated in the
Transitional Housing and Services Program as they worked
to rebuild their lives after leaving an abusive relationship.
The organization is experiencing a substantial increase
in calls for service in a number of programs this year.
CU’s continued ability to respond effectively is
possible because of the dedication and commitment of
trained direct service volunteers who often tell of the
reward, fulfillment and gratitude they experience doing
the work. After training, direct service volunteers are
asked to commit to one or two evening or daytime shifts
per month. Staff back-up is available during all shifts
and stipends may be available for some “hard-to-fill” shifts.
