Do You Charge For Services?
No. All of our services are provided free of charge to anyone victimized in an intimate relationship.

Are You A United Way Agency?
Yes. Caring Unlimited has received funding from United Way for many years. United Way funds about 8% of our budget each year.

Are You A State or County Agency?

No. We are a private non-profit organization. We receive federal, state, county and municipal funding and much of our support comes from the private sector. We believe domestic violence is a national problem that affects our entire society. In order to achieve Zero Tolerance for Domestic Violence a coordinated community response is required. We are grateful that our diverse funding indicates a commitment to ending domestic violence on the part of our funders.

What Areas Do You Serve?
Our primary service area is York County, Maine. We provide services to women and children from each of the county’s 29 cities and towns each year and we are the only organization providing services exclusively to victims of domestic violence in York County.

How long can women stay at your shelter?

Our limit is 30 days and we try to stick to it. While women are staying at the shelter we work with them to help them find permanent housing of their own. Recently we have frequently been forced to extend that deadline because of a serious lack of affordable housing in York County.

Do you serve men?
Yes. Caring Unlimited provides services to any person victimized in an intimate relationship.

Do you provide counseling for abusers?

No. Violence No More in Biddeford is the local Batterer’s Intervention Program to which we make referrals.

Do you work with children?
Yes. More children than adults stay at our shelter. We have had a children’s program at the shelter for many years. We also provide dating violence prevention work in York County schools. In 2002 we will be expanding our Children’s Program to assist children who have witnessed domestic violence through our Non-Residential Services Program.

Do You Use Volunteers?
You bet we do! There are approximately 50 volunteers providing services to families through Caring Unlimited. For more information about Volunteering with Caring Unlimited click here or call us at 490-3227 x106 for information about our upcoming trainings.
